From Semi-Annual Workouts to a Real Routine: How ClassPass Changed Everything

For most of my adult life, my “fitness routine” was something I could only describe as semi-annual. Yes, you read that right—just a couple of workouts a year. It sounds terrible (and it was), but I always tried to give it a cute name to make myself feel better about it. The truth is, staying consistent with exercise never came naturally to me. I’d get motivated for a week or two, burn out, and then avoid gyms altogether for months at a time.

But lately, something has shifted. With encouragement from friends, family, and—most importantly—ClassPass, I’ve finally managed to carve out a routine that sticks. And for once, I don’t dread it.

Why ClassPass Works for Me

I think what finally helped me bridge the gap between “occasional gym visitor” and “someone who actually works out” was structure combined with flexibility. ClassPass gave me both.

Here’s how it works: I pay $60 per month for 5 workout classes. If you’re new, they even offer $30 off your first month—so that comes out to just $6 a class. Pretty unbeatable compared to traditional gym memberships.

The catch (and blessing) is that unused classes don’t roll over. That means I have to show up at least five times a month. For me, this is the perfect level of accountability—just enough to push me without feeling overwhelming.

There are also limits, like being able to visit each studio only twice per month. While that might sound restrictive, I actually love it. It forces me to mix things up instead of falling into a rut. Barre one week, yoga the next, maybe a bootcamp thrown in for good measure. I get variety, which keeps me engaged.

The social aspect is another unexpected motivator. I can add my friends who also use ClassPass and see what classes they’ve signed up for. Nothing motivates me to show up quite like knowing a friend will be there. It makes the whole experience less intimidating and way more fun.

And then there’s the dreaded cancellation fee. You have to cancel more than 24 hours in advance, or you’re charged. At first, I groaned at the idea, but it’s been a blessing in disguise. I’ve stopped bailing on workouts at the last minute because I don’t want to pay for something I didn’t even attend. That extra layer of accountability really adds up.

Real Housewives-Inspired Workouts

One of the things that made me laugh while scrolling through the app was how many of the classes looked familiar. I’d seen them on Real Housewives episodes or even on the Housewives’ Instagram feeds. Pilates reformer sessions, trendy spin classes, high-energy dance workouts—they were all there.

I realized: if it’s good enough for the Housewives, it’s good enough for me. There’s something oddly motivating about knowing you’re trying the same kind of workouts celebrities rave about. Even if it’s just a silly reason to get moving, I’ll take it.

And honestly, it works. Seeing Lisa Rinna twirl through a dance class or Kyle Richards sweating it out at a boutique gym makes me think, Why not me?

Building a Real Routine

What’s surprised me the most is how quickly this has shifted from being a “cute experiment” to something I actually look forward to. Instead of dreading workouts, I now treat them as mini adventures. I love exploring new studios, trying different instructors, and challenging myself in ways I never would’ve thought to on my own.

Some classes push me harder than I thought possible, while others feel more like self-care. That balance has been key. Instead of burning out like I used to, I’m actually pacing myself.

Five classes a month might not sound like much, but for me, it’s huge progress. It’s more than enough to feel stronger, healthier, and a lot more confident in my body. Plus, the ripple effects are real—I’m sleeping better, I’m more focused at work, and my overall mood has improved.

The Accountability Factor

At the end of the day, ClassPass gave me the right mix of flexibility and responsibility. I can choose the classes that excite me, but I also can’t just coast by and “forget” about fitness for months at a time. The structure keeps me consistent, and the variety keeps me curious.

Most importantly, it’s made working out feel less like a chore and more like a lifestyle. I’m no longer the person who works out semi-annually. I’m someone who moves her body regularly—and enjoys it.

Final Thoughts

If you’ve struggled to build a fitness routine, I can’t recommend ClassPass enough. Whether you need accountability, variety, or just a fun excuse to get out of the house, it offers a little bit of everything. For me, it’s been the perfect nudge into consistency.

And hey, if you ever need inspiration, just remember: the Housewives are doing these classes too. If they can make time for a sweat session between champagne toasts and drama, so can we.

Here’s to leaving semi-annual workouts in the past and embracing routines that actually stick.
